Poleng’s story is a powerful reminder that compassion can genuinely change everything. What began as a story of abandonment and suffering slowly turned into one of healing, trust, and a real second chance at happiness.
A Life on the Edge
When Poleng was first discovered, his condition was hard to look at. His entire body was covered in thick, hardened scabs caused by advanced mange. His skin looked cracked and lifeless, almost like dry concrete in places. It was painfully clear that he had been left to suffer like this for a long time. His previous owner had simply walked away, unwilling to spend money on the medical care he needed.
Fortunately, a local farming family couldn’t ignore what they were seeing. They took Poleng in, gave him food and shelter, and did what they could for him until he was eventually transferred to a rescue center where real, proper treatment could finally begin.

The Road to Healing
At the rescue center, Poleng began treatment right away. Veterinarians started him on antibiotics and a carefully planned diet designed to help rebuild his weakened body from the inside out. The first days were genuinely difficult for him. Poleng was constantly itchy, barely able to rest comfortably, and reacted defensively whenever people tried to touch him. Fear and pain had shaped nearly everything about his behavior at that point.

Still, the rescue team stayed patient with him. Day after day, they cleaned his wounds, spoke to him gently, and slowly showed him that he was finally somewhere safe. Bit by bit, the hardened scabs began to loosen and fall away, revealing healthier skin underneath. Not long after, tiny patches of new fur started appearing, small but genuinely powerful signs of hope for what was coming.
Healing Beyond the Skin
As Poleng’s physical condition improved, something in his personality started shifting too. The frightened, defensive dog he had been began actively seeking out comfort instead. He leaned into gentle hands, seemed to enjoy quiet moments of affection, and eventually even began to play again.
One of the more touching parts of his recovery involved an unexpected friendship with a white duck at the center. The duck stayed close to him consistently, calmly following him around and offering a kind of quiet companionship. That unlikely bond seemed to give Poleng an extra bit of strength throughout his recovery process.
A New Beginning
After just three weeks of dedicated care, Poleng was almost unrecognizable from where he’d started. His coat was growing back steadily, his body was noticeably stronger, and his eyes were finally full of visible life again.
The same farming family who had first shown him kindness back in the village stepped forward again, this time to adopt him permanently and give him a real, lasting home.
Today, Poleng lives in a loving household, surrounded by warmth and consistent care. From abandonment and illness to safety and genuine joy, his journey is proof that with patience, kindness, and enough love, even the most broken-down bodies and spirits can heal.
